"In this lesson; students will learn the letter ""R”. The lesson is placed in a sequence that reflects the various stages of phonological awareness of the sound /r/ in words. It provides the scaffolding that students require by facilitating the gradual acquisition of the reading skills crucial to reading proficiency.Together with the teacher; students first elicit the initial sound /r/ in words and names. Students are then introduced to the written letter; in uppercase and lowercase: R-r. Further activities; both kinesthetic and tactile; are suggested. Students then view an animation that presents the name and sound of the letter; its location on the keyboard; and the way it is written. This is followed by an interactive animation that allows the students to watch parts of the animation again.The animation is followed by a series of computerized activities that focus on phonological awareness; visual and auditory perception; and phonics. The first set of activities – Learn ""R” – focuses on the new letter. Students will then complete a printable to practice writing the letter R-r; visually discriminate the letter R-r from other letters; match pictures with letters that have been learned to date.The final lesson: ""For Teachers” contains the Teacher’s Manual; flashcards; printables; and booklets for this unit."
